The Friends of Dance Summer Scholarship Program was established in 1996 to make summer dance study more accessible to Emory students. It enables a student to study either in the United States or abroad with notable practicing artists, dance programs, and dance companies of his or her choice. Recent recipients have studied at the Colorado Dance Festival, the Tisch Residency Festival at NYU, the American Dance Festival, and White Mountain Summer Dance Festival, among others.
Application information for the 2009 awards will be posted here in January 2009.
The Dance Scholar Lecture Series has encompassed a wide selection of topics, ranging from Doris Humphrey's life and work, to discourses on Asian dance forms. Recently, a compelling lecture on dance and intellectual property rights was given by Dr. Sally Banes.
The Emory Friends of Dance play a vital role in all guest artist residencies by involvement in special performances and meet-the-artist receptions.
